Baby in the washing machine? Seemed like fun at the time

We’ve all had moments–particularly after a really big diaper blow out–when we wished we could just toss the baby into the washing machine. Most of us smile and then get back to the cleanup. But every once in a while, some complete idiot actually does put a child into a washing machine.

And that’s exactly what a dad in an Indianapolis laundromat did, thinking it would be kind of funny. Meanwhile, mom stands there watching the whole thing.

Unfortunately, the machine’s automatic lock kicked in and as the washer starts to fill with water, the parents panicked (could have been worse, I suppose–they could have just left), and tried frantically to pry open the door.

With the help of the laundromat attendant, they were able to unplug the machine, which released the lock and freed the toddler. Remarkably, the child was okay.

You can read more about this awful story here.

I’d love to say that this is the only case of laundry stupidity on record, but it’s not.

There’s the frustrated babysitter who killed a 5-month old when she put him in the dryer…

The teen mom who did the same thing…

The guy who actually put a friend‘s baby in the dryer…

The crystal meth addict who, while stoned out of her mind, accidentally put her baby in the washing machine with the rest of the laundry. The baby, who later died, went through an entire spin cycle…

And to prove that this isn’t just a problem in the U.S., there’s the Canadian couple who let their 20-month old play in an industrial dryer. Of course, the door closed and locked. The boy was saved by a quick-thinking construction worker who broke open the dryer door with a baseball bat…

Really makes you want to lobby hard for some kind of licensing for parents…

Whatcha think?
